A shout out to our Victorian-based members – we’re with you! Thankfully, there’s plenty of awesome things happening ‘virtually’ you can tap into online right now including both the Melbourne Writers Festival and Melbourne Film Festival. Here’s five recommendations…
Melbourne Film Festival – 6-23rd August
Be entertained, inspired and empowered. This year, the MIFF has gone online and features over 113 films from 56 countries. The line-up includes 12 world premieres,83 Australian premieres, inspiring talks, interviews and 44 free short films to enjoy. The MIFF starts on August 6th and runs for two weeks. Forty-nine percent of the films shown this year are directed by women.
Melbourne Writers Festival – 7-16th August
This annual inspiring festival has also gone on-line and offers a Pay What You Can system.
Download their program- this year’s lineup includes interviews with over 100 of the world’s most inspiring writers and thinkers. This year’s theme is ‘Attention’ – just some of the inspiring discussions include ‘Women and Leadership’ with former Australian PM, Julia Gillard, Guardian Australia’s Book Club with Kate Grenville, plus workshops for the Kids and Teens.
Serious Comedy
We’re prescribing lots of laughter right now! Serious Comedy is a platform which will feature several comedians performing on Zoom. Highlights include comedians Andrew McClelland and Louisa Fitzhardinge. Serious Comedy also offers a pay-what-you-can service.

Australian Center of Contemporary Art
The art gallery may be closed but online inspiring discussions are very much alive. These include artist-led workshops, podcasts and lectures. The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) is dedicated to leading cultural conversation and setting the agenda for contemporary art.
